KC Recycling Depot, along with Warsaw Community Public Library, held the 2nd Trash to Treasure Art Contest Saturday. April is known as Recycling Month, the spring theme of Reduce, Reuse, Recycle “Rethink” Your Trash.

April 22nd is Earth Day and, during the contest, entrants were encouraged to “rethink” their trash with their art project. Over 40 art projects were entered and were made from 100 percent discarded trash. Jan Hazelett and Bev Garner from Lakeland Art Center were the Judges. Prizes were gift cards from Walmart and Noa Noa Wood Grill & Sushi Bar. Each prize winner received a sun catcher made from recycled glass.

Winners of the Trash to Treasure Art contest were as follows:

Elementary School
1st – Andrew Ross, Steel Clock
2nd – Audrey Grimm, The Plastic Lab
3rd – Marissa Adkins, The Castle

Middle School
1st – Athena Schlitt and Makenzy Dungan, The Stages
2nd – Abigail Federico and Emily Gilbertson, Amazing Air Pop
3rd – Abigail Creekmore, My Mama said, “Life’s like a box of chocolates”

High School
1st – Ashley Lockridge, Birdhouse
2nd – Ashley Lockridge, Rack

Adult
1st – John Lowman, Imperfect Art
2nd – Sherri Johnson – Two fo my Favorite pasttimes
3rd – Ethel Barnett – Tote bag and water bottle carrier
