Communities Matter At Your Library: Celebrate National Library Week April 14-20
Next week, the Milford Public Library joins libraries in schools, campuses and communities nationwide in celebrating National Library Week, a time to highlight the value of libraries, librarians and library workers.

Libraries today are more than repositories for books and other resources. Often the heart of their communities, campuses or schools, libraries are deeply committed to the places where their patrons live, work and study. Libraries are trusted places where everyone in the community can gather to reconnect and reengage with each other to enrich and shape the community and address local issues.

Librarians work with elected officials, small business owners, students and the public at large to discover what their communities needs are and meet them. Whether through offering e-books and technology classes, materials for English-language learners, programs for job seekers or those to support early literacy, librarians listen to the community they serve, and they respond.

The Milford Public Library serves the Milford community by providing current best-selling fiction and non-fiction books, a wide variety of magazines, books on CD, e-books through OverDrive, and the latest movies and music for anyone’s tastes. The library has public access Internet and wireless access as well as programming for children, teens and adults throughout the year. Watch for Freegal coming soon.

“Service to the community has always been the focus of the library,” said Julie Frew, Milford library director. “While this aspect has never changed, libraries have grown and evolved in how they provide for the needs of every member of their community.”

MPL will also be receiving the following DVDs: The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey; Lincoln; and Django Unchained (April 16). Over 60 new materials a week are added to the library’s collection.

Puzzle Day
Do you enjoy putting together puzzles? MPL will have a puzzle out on a table upstairs for all puzzle lovers to work on. This puzzle is in memory of Sharon Gilbert who passed away in March this year. Sharon was a member of the Friends of Milford Library. She helped create the new cookbook that is now for sale, and had many puzzles and loved to work on them. The puzzle will be out beginning Monday, April 8.
