INDIANAPOLIS – Warsaw girls basketball coach Michelle Harter continues to reap the rewards following an outstanding 2012-13 season by her team.

Harter has been selected as one of six girls basketball coaches statewide as recipients of the IBCA Bob King Coach of the Year Award. The IBCA, whose members chose the award winners, announced the winners today.

Harter was honored after guiding the Tigers to a 24-2 mark during the 2012-13 campaign. Warsaw won its own TCU Holiday Tournament title, along with a Northern Lakes Conference championship and Class 4-A Concord Sectional and Valparaiso Regional titles. The Tigers lost 47-44 to Fort Wayne South Side in the Warsaw Semistate.

Harter, a two-time NLC Coach of the Year honoree,  has spent the last 22 seasons as a coach in the Warsaw girls basketball program. She is now 80-31 the past five seasons as head coach. Harter played on the 1985 Wawasee team that earned state runner-up honors and went on to play at Huntington College. A health and physical education teacher at WCHS, Harter has also been selected to coach the Indiana Junior All-Star team this summer.

Harter was one of two coaches honored by her peers from District 1. The other was Rod Parker of Homestead, who guided his team to a 21-4 mark this past season.

The other recipients of the IBCA Coach of the Year accolades were Shane Sumpter of Westfield and Tod Windlan of Hamilton Heights in District 2 and Kurt Godlevske of Bedford North Lawrence and Pat McKee of Columbus North in District 3.

Sumpter directed his Westfield team to a 21-3 mark with a sectional title. Windlan guided Hamilton Heights to a 21-5 record, which included sectional, regional and semi state championships and a Class 3-A state runner-up finish. Godlevske guided BNL to a perfect 28-0 season, which included winning the Class 4-A state championship. McKee’s Columbus North team went 25-1 and won a sectional crown.

The six coaches will be honored at the IBCA Spring Clinic April 26-27 in Indianapolis.
