Warsaw Pair Headline Academic Honorees

images-1 copyA plethora of players from the area, led by the outstanding Warsaw duo of Lindsay Baker and Jennifer Walker-Crawford, top the list of cagers honored as Academic All-State choices by the IBCA.

Baker and Walker-Crawford, who led the Tigers to a 24-2 record with conference, sectional and regional championships on the hardwood this past season, are both first-team, All-State honorees for their work in the classroom as well.

Also named to the first-team on the girls side were twin sisters Haley and Madison Schrock of Northridge, along with Olivia Carlton and Taylor Lutz, both of Penn.

Honorable mention selections for senior girls included Sarah Ray (Warsaw), Maddie Schwartz (NorthWood), Ashley Shepherd (West Noble), Morgan Allison (South Bend Riley) and Imani Ballard (South Bend Riley).

Among the area boys seniors honored statewide as first-team picks were Caleb Morris (Bethany Christian), Sam Stegelmann (Goshen), Austin Torres (Penn) and Connor Edmonds (South Bend St. Joseph).

The boys honorable mention list includes Jacob Box (Bremen), Ryan Brown (South Bend St. Joseph), Jesse Good (Goshen), Austin Henke (Goshen), Mitch Herber (Lakeland), Derek Hinen (Columbia City), Markese McGuire (Elkhart Memorial), Caleb Stayton (Elkhart Christian), Mikey Szrom (Penn) and Gabe Vervynt (Plymouth).

Coaches could nominate their seniors who met certain criteria, including a 3.5 or higher GPA, a class rank in the upper 25 percent and an SAT score of at least 1,500 or an ACT score of at least 23. An IBCA committee then made the All-State selections, based on both athletic and academic achievements.
