images-8MARION – The Grace College track and field teams had another strong showing at the IWU Invitational Saturday with a record-setting trio of performances.

Freshman Nathan Brown continued his assault on Grace’s record books with two more school records, and Kaitlyn Mikel set another record in the weight throw.

“This was the best competition we’ve faced this year, and several people responded very well,” said Grace head coach Jeff Raymond. “We still have plenty of work to do as the season progresses, but overall it was a good meet.”

Brown upped the school-record mark he set last week in the high jump when he cleared 6-feet-2.75. He also broke a 10-year record in the long jump with his mark of 21-3.5.

In less than a month of collegiate competition, Brown has his name etched on three school records (high jump, long jump, 4×200 relay). He is also the reigning Crossroads League Indoor Track Athlete of the Week.

Mikel broke her own school record in the weight throw with a third-place toss of 46-11.5.

The men’s distance medley relay squad of Jonathan Rex, Jamin Parker, Ben Drew and Collin Chupp finished in second place in a time of 10:57.54.

Luke Frauhiger had a season-best in the pole vault with a third-place height of 13-5.25.

The 600 was a strong event for both the men’s and women’s teams. Donovan Graham (1:25.35) and Lance Taylor (1:25.96) paced the men’s teams, and Allison Zylstra’s 1:45.32 led the Lady Lancers.

The Lancers continue competition next weekend at the Taylor Invitational.
