Wawasee logoNAPPANEE — It was all or nothing for the Wawasee wrestlers as it returned to action Thursday night at NorthWood.

Winning seven of its eight matches via pin fall, the Warriors upended NorthWood, 45-31, to grab its second Northern Lakes Conference win of the season.

Five of Wawasee’s pins came in the first period, the fastest coming from heavyweight Chad Eppley over Dan Guevara in just 33 seconds. Also scoring pins for Wawasee were Nick Rozow at 160 pounds over Brandon Menzie, Brian Clark at 195 over Corbin Johnson, Andy Holdeman against Zac BeMiller at 220, Tristan Ponsler at 113 on Matthew Pippinger, Harvey Lopez over Ryan Price at 120 and Doug Corl pinning Tyler Kinney in the 138-pound matchup.

Michael Pena closed out the night with an 8-6 overtime win against Caleb Reeve in the 145-pound card.

The Panthers had a trio of pins, led by Zach Telschow’s mat slap of Devann Lilly in the 182-pound feature. Cody Pippen at 126 and Josh Chupp at 132 both won via pin over Zac McKee and Julian Hernandez, respectively. Derek Weldy began the night for the Panthers with a 12-1 major decision over Zach Ford at 152 and Scott Kern scored an 11-5 decision on Stephen Possell at 170 pounds. NorthWood were awarded a forfeit at 106 pounds.

Wawasee (11-14 overall, 2-4 NLC) will travel to Elkhart Memorial next Thursday and then participate in the Western Duals on Jan. 12 before hosting the rest of the conference for the NLC Championship on Jan. 19.
