UPDATE: Arrest Made In Elderly Woman’s Death

Elkhart County Sheriff’s Detectives, working with the Elkhart County Coroner’s office, completed an autopsy Saturday on Norma J. Hopper and determined her death was the result of a homicide.

On Friday, Dec. 21, Elkhart County Sheriff’s Deputies responded to 54640 Michael Dr. in Elkhart to investigate the death of Hopper, 76, who was found deceased at the residence.

Investigators were asking for the public’s help in locating a vehicle that went missing from the residence. The vehicle is described as a blue 4-door 1998 Chevy Lumina bearing Indiana In God We Trust license plate SPV314. Today, authorities say they have located the suspect vehicle but are not giving any additional information.

Also, police say they have a suspect in custody for the murder of Norma J. Hopper. Sheriff Rogers stated that “after a labor inventive weekend and hard work by our detectives,” they were able to recover the missing vehicle and take a suspect into custody. Sheriff Rogers further thanked the South Bend Metro Homicide Unit and the Goshen Police Department for their assistance in this investigation.

The person accused is not yet being named and specifics concerning the details of the investigation are not being released at this time.

The case has been forwarded to the Elkhart County Prosecutor’s Office and further inquiries into the case should be directed toward that office.
