WABASH – Defense did the trick Tuesday night for the Warsaw girls basketball team.

The Tigers remained undefeated on the season by whipping Wabash 55-22 in a non-conference contest.

Coach Michelle Harter’s squad held the hosts to a 7-of-32 shooting effort from the field in the dominating win. Warsaw also forced Wabash into 23 turnovers as the Apaches scored a season low point total. Wabash entered the game averaging 47.1 points-per-game, while Warsaw was allowing 39.3 ppg. The 22 points was a season low for a Warsaw foe this year.

The Tigers, who improve to 5-0, raced to a 19-9 lead after the first quarter of play. A red-hot shooting effort, which saw Warsaw connect on 14-of-27 field goal attempts, paced the Tigers to a 35-15 advantage at halftime. Warsaw then kept the heat on with a 15-3 edge in points in the third stanza.

Senior star Lindsay Baker tossed in a game-high 18 points to lead Warsaw. The University of Toledo recruit hit 4-of-8 from 3-point range and also grabbed six rebounds in the win.

Jennifer Walker-Crawford had 12 points and Nikki Grose had eight points and a team-high seven rebounds for Warsaw. Senior Sarah Ray had a strong all-around game with four points to go with five assists and four steals.

Both Warsaw (Class 4-A) and Wabash (Class 2-A) received votes in the ICGSA polls this week.

Warsaw also only had eight turnovers in the win, which snapped Wabash’s four-game winning streak. The Apaches drop to 5-3 on the season.

Warsaw won the junior varsity contest by a 32-15 final.

Warsaw (5-0) opens Northern Lakes Conference action Saturday night versus Class 3-A No. 10 Plymouth (6-1). The JV contest begins at 6 p.m. Wabash (5-3) plays at Rochester Saturday night in Three Rivers Conference action.
