The big news at the North Webster Town Council meeting Tuesday was that the parking will be changed on East Washington Street from Main Street to East Street.

Upon the recommendation of the utilities department supervisor, Mike Noe, and Police Chief Greg Church, parallel parking will be instituted on the north side of the street while the south side parking will remain diagonal. This was suggested for safety reasons as there have been several instances annually of people backing into each other, especially at night. The council voted unanimously for the change.

The matter came up because East Washington Street was one of the streets that was repaved recently and it’s time to put the striping for parking spaces down.

The 20 acres of farmland the town owns on the north side will need a new farmer. Specs will be published in The Mail-Journal and other newspapers and bids will be accepted until Tuesday, Dec. 18, the next council meeting. Selection should be done then.

Noe reported that leaf pick-up season will last through next week. The department received compliments from council member Lisa Strombeck and town resident J.B. Routh on the fine job it was doing on leaf pick-up.

Noe cited his staff for doing a tremendous job, especially since the equipment had broken down twice and had to be repaired.

Also, the town Christmas lights are being put for display this week and will be ready for the town lighting ceremony on Saturday. The property at 653 N. Center St. Extension has been cleared of debris to the satisfaction of the neighbors.

During the police department report, Church noted that 233 calls of service had been made in October. Officers logged 583.5 hours while driving 3,412 miles and using 280.7 gallons of fuel. Halloween went very smoothly as well.

Council president Jon Sroufe read a letter from the Webster Lake Ski Bees thanking the town for the use of the park during the summer. It mentioned the work of Tim Hine, council member, in keeping the area clean.

Routh again thanked the council and everyone involved for the work on the lift station and the property near his home.

Attending the meeting were Noe, Church, Strombeck, Sroufe, Hine, Routh, Clerk-Treasurer Betsy Luce and Jack Birch, town attorney. The next meeting will be 6 p.m. Tuesday, Dec. 18, in the party room, North Webster Community Center, 301 N. Main St.
