Sponsored by the NWCPL’s Local History and Genealogy Center, this five-week series has been well attended as patrons learned about 200 years of U.S. military history from 1775 through 1975. Interesting, little known facts, artifacts, personal accounts, guest speakers, local history, and presentation of NWCPL resources have made military history come alive and relevant for our lives today.
The NWCPL encourages patrons to continue to pursue their interest in history by taking advantage of the many resources the NWCPL offers, including books, e-books, DVDs, reference materials, online databases, and inter-library loan.
Upgrades to Evergreen Indiana
For greater convenience and a more user-friendly experience, the NWCPL recently upgraded its Evergreen Indiana to make it easier for patrons to find what they’re looking for.
The new upgrade includes several new features such as the ability to explore the catalog through refined searches as well as basic searches. Patrons can now also place holds on new materials from other libraries. Their name will then be added to the list once the other library lifts the six-month restriction for new materials. Another convenient feature is text messaging notification on your mobile phone for on-hold items.
The Evergreen System can be accessed from your home computer via the website at www.nweb.lib.in.us as well as at the NWCPL. Of course, the NWCPL staff is always available to assist you in locating and securing materials.
Adult Craft Class
If you enjoy making things, you’ll find a creative outlet at the popular Make and Take Card Class at 10 a.m., Thursday, Nov. 1. Instructor Donna Corp will show you how to design and create your own personal greeting cards for all occasions, and you get to take home all the cards you make in class. Advance registration is required and a $7 class fee is due when you register.
Just stop by the front desk and sign up for a fun time of creating and camaraderie.
Children’s Activities
Preschool Story Time continues in the Youth Services Department at 10:30 a.m. and 11:30 a.m. on Wednesdays as the children learn all about “Pets with Mrs. Pam.” The children enjoy several stories about pets, songs, finger plays, magnet board, and crafts. The Youth Services Department is a great family resource in helping your children, toddlers through teens, learn and explore.
