Carol A. Strang, 78, of Syracuse, Ind., died at her residence at 4:15 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 18, 2012, after a short illness.

She was born Nov. 11, 1933, in Milford, Ind., to Harry W. and Ruth Lucile (Lingofelter) Gillis. She was a graduate of Nappanee High School and lived her lifetime in this area.

Carol married Robert Strang on May 29, 1953, in the Church of the Brethren in Nappanee.

Carol had worked as receptionist for Dr. James Miller and also as a teacher’s assistant at South Side School. She had loved working with the children there. Carol loved her family and was a strong Christian who loved her Lord. She was a member of the First Mennonite Church in Nappanee. She had been involved with the Nappanee Civic Theater, participating in many productions. Carol was a very artistic woman and a beautiful vocalist who sang for others her entire life.

She is survived by her husband: Robert Strang, Syracuse; daughters: Patti (Rick) Huff and Betsy (Chris) Butler, both of Goshen, Ind.; a son: Scott (Karen) Strang, Bristol, Ind.; grandchildren: Caleb Denney, Braxton Butler, Brenna Butler, Shera Denney, Allison Strang,and Brandy Ralston; four great-grandchildren; a niece: Kimber Lee Manges (Mike) Baker, whom she helped raise.She was preceded in death by an infant brother: Dennis; and a sister: Sherry May Gillis Manges.

Family and friends may call from 2 p.m. to 8 p.m. Sunday at Thompson-Lengacher & Yoder Funeral Home, Nappanee. There will also be one hour of visitation prior to the funeral service which will be at 10:30 a.m., Monday at the First Mennonite Church. Rev. Janet McFall-Brown will officiate and burial will be in Union Center Cemetery.

Memorial contributions may be given to First Mennonite Church or The Center for Hospice.
