Warsaw Fire personnel have a section of Main Street in downtown Warsaw blocked off while a gas leak is being repaired.

The leak is in the area between Lake and Buffalo streets.

According to Warsaw Fire Chief Mike Brubaker, a fiber optic line must be located before NIPSCO can attempt to dig to repair the broken gas line. If the fiber optic line is severed, the cost to repair it could exceed $1 million.

The gas is actually leaking into a storm system along Buffalo, Main and Center streets and may take several hours to repair.

The following downtown areas will be closed for the duration while NIPSCO works to locate the gas leak: Lake Street from Fort Wayne to Center streets, and Main Street from Buffalo to Columbia streets
