STATEHOUSE — State Rep. Dave Wolkins (R-Winona Lake) was named Legislator of the Year by the Indiana Academy of Ophthalmology at the academy’s Annual Meeting and Scientific Seminar.

The Indiana Academy of Ophthalmology President, Andrew Tharp, MD, was there to present the award. “Rep. Wolkins is respected not only for his concern for and actions on behalf of quality patient care, but also for his dedication to the legislative process.

“He is open to hearing all sides of an issue and bases his decision making on the facts surrounding an issue. He continues to exhibit the utmost fairness even in the face of opposition,” said Tharp.

The Legislator of the Year award is presented to a member of the Indiana General Assembly who has sought to promote quality eye care through the sponsorship of legislation or outstanding support or opposition to proposed legislation. Rep. Wolkins is the 18th recipient of the award.

“It is truly an honor to be recognized by the Indiana Academy of Ophthalmology,” said Rep. Wolkins. “As a state elected official, I am dedicated to serving the needs of my fellow Hoosiers, this was truly a humbling experience.”
