Phyllis LaWanda Sundheimer, 90, of Warsaw, Ind., passed away at 4:22 a.m. Friday, Oct. 12, 2012, at her residence at Miller’s Merry Manor of Warsaw.

She was born in Chicago, Ill., on March 19, 1922, to Thurl T. Whetstone and Eva Rae (Study) Whetstone. She was married on Aug. 13, 1977, to Herbert A. Sundheimer Jr., who passed away Jan. 12, 2009.

Phyllis attended First Christian Church of Warsaw, and had been a resident of Kosciusko County, Ind., for the past 80 years. She worked as a nurse for over 40 years, retiring in 1980. She was a charter member of the VFW, a member of the American Legion, and a member of the Moose Lodge. Phyllis was also a longtime volunteer at Kosciusko Community Hospital of Warsaw.

She will be lovingly remembered by her three sons: Scott (Carol) Davis, Las Vegas, Nev.; Merle (Pat) Warren, Fort Wayne, Ind.; David VanderVeen, Milwaukee, Wisc.; and two daughters: Judy Dewlen, Covington, Ind.; Dalene Goshert, Winona Lake, Ind.; two step-sons: Stanley (Jet) Sundheimer, Cicero, Ind.; Alan Sundheimer, Ellettsville, Ind.; two step-daughters: Gaye (James) Haist, Wheaton, Ill.; Dina (Larry) Glass, Noblesville, Ind.; and many grandchildren, and great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents and husband.

Visitation will be from 12:30 p.m. to 2 p.m. Monday, Oct. 15, at Warsaw First Christian Church, 115 Park Ridge Dr., Warsaw. A memorial service will follow at 2 p.m. in the church and officiated by Pastor Gary Boschain. Burial will take place at a later date at Falls Cemetery, Wabash, Ind.

Arrangements were entrusted to Redpath-Fruth Funeral Home, 225 Argonne Rd., Warsaw.
