Maddie Gawthrop turned in a strong all-around performance to lead her Whitko volleyball team to a close win over Tippecanoe Valley Wednesday night in South Whitley.
Gawthrop slammed a team-high 10 kills as the Wildcats beat the Vikings 25-23, 26-24, 25-23 in the Three Rivers Conference clash.
Gawthrop also led the winners with five aces and four blocks. Meghan Peters had 21 assists and 14 digs for Whitko in the win. Taylor Zwick had eight kills, Whitney Hobbs four aces and Jenny Brown 15 digs for coach Brandy Smith’s squad.
Jade Hoffman had seven kills to lead Valley. Caylie Teel had three blocks and Connor Fraser three aces for the Vikings. Courtney Newsome had nine digs and Danielle Adams eight for coach Abby Turner’s team, which falls to 12-11. Tenaya Shull and Kelsey Eckert each had eight assists.
Tippecanoe Valley won the JV match 2-0. Tressa Keim led Whitko with three kills, three aces and 12 digs. Emily Hughes had four kills, Emily Day three assists and Sarah Senseny 10 digs for the Wildcats.
