Triton Doubles Duo Wins, Kindig Falls

CULVER – There were mixed results for area prep tennis players competing as individuals Tuesday in the Culver Academies Regional.

The Triton No. 1 doubles team of Jeff Ross and Pete Kauffman extended their season with a win. Meanwhile, Tippecanoe Valley’s Nick Kindig saw his postseason run end with a loss in his No. 1 singles match.

Ross and Kauffman teamed to defeat Chris Ayers and Adam Harts of Maconaquah 6-3, 6-2 to advance on in the No. 1 doubles tourney competition for coach Allen Peckham. The pair, who are 11-2 playing together this season, will have to await the outcome of Wednesday’s team regional final pitting No. 14 Culver Academies versus Warsaw to see who and when they play again.

Ross, who played No. 1 singles part of the season for the Trojans, and Kauffman, beat the Bremen team of Nate Strehler and Joe Zeltwanger 6-2, 6-1 during Triton’s 4-1 loss in the sectional opener at Bremen.

Kindig saw his senior season come to a close Tuesday night with a 6-3, 6-2 loss to senior Derek Hinen of Columbia City. Kindig had two impressive wins in the Warsaw Sectional for coach Matt Mobley’s program. He defeated Tyler Baugher of Whitko 6-2, 6-1 in the first round and then topped Kyle Wettschurack of Warsaw 7-5, 6-3 in the team semifinals.

The Triton No. 1 doubles team of Jeff Ross and Pete Kauffman prepare for a return Tuesday at Culver Academies. The duo won 6-3, 6-2 to extend their season.
