Wawasee had a huge night from its boys cross country team, grabbing two wins over Plymouth and Memorial in the final round robin races ahead of the Northern Lakes Conference championship.

Austin Yoder won his first-career race, running an 18:17 to lead Wawasee in a clean sweep of Memorial 15-48 and Plymouth 15-50 on the Plymouth trail.

Troy Carolus was second at 18:27, Adam Doll third at 18:31, Joey Bornman at 18:31, Reid Stichter at 18:38 and Austin Krizman at 18:39 for the top six places.

“The guys had a great meet,” Wawasee head coach Jerid Stoffel said. “It was a very positive meet right before conference.”

Bre Robinson was third overall at 20:59 and Courtney Linnemeier seventh at 21:35, but Wawasee didn’t have enough depth to steal enough points to beat Plymouth in a 30-27 result. The Lady Warriors did have the spacing to beat Memorial 21-36.

Madison Miller was tenth at 21:55, Jen Slabaugh 12th at 22:27 and Emma Donahoe 20th at 25:37 to round up the scoring spots for Wawasee.

“Tonight was a rough night,” Stoffel said. “We had a lot of girls that were out tonight from injuries. Emma Donahoe had a good race. Taylor Busse (27:16) and Ruby Minnick (27:54) had great finishes and each out-kicked people which was great to see. We are going to come back and be ready to compete at conference.”

The Warrior boys finished 3-4 and the girls 4-3 in the NLC round robin standings.

The NLC championship will run this Saturday morning at Ox Bow Park in Elkhart.
