WARSAW – Meredith Hollar took a big step towards reaching a career milestone Thursday night. The Warsaw senior star netted five goals in pacing the Tigers to an 11-0 win over Manchester in non-conference girls soccer action at WCHS.
Hollar, who recently returned to action after five games due to a knee injury, now has 57 career goals. The WCHS school record is 61 by Ashley Kitchens.
Hollar, a Grace College recruit who missed her entire junior season due to a knee injury, tied her own single-game school record Thursday night with the five tallies.
Freshman Elizabeth Van Wormer scored three times for the Tigers in the win. Gabby Monroy, Kelly Williams and Lexi Myers each added one goal for Warsaw, which led 6-0 at halftime.
Monroy and senior Erica Gauger each had four assists for the Tigers. Alex Noppert, Sandra Granda and Sarah Boyle each had one assist.
Warsaw outshot Manchester 23-0 and had a 6-3 edge in corner kicks. Abby Schue got the shutout in goal for the Tigers. Kiersten Staley had 12 saves for the Squires.
Warsaw (8-3-2) hosts NLC foe Wawasee Saturday. The JV contest begins at 10a.m. with the varsity game to follow. The Tigers then play at Northridge Sept. 27 in their regular-season finale before sectional play begins.
