Wawasee had mixed results in its cross country meets with NorthWood and Concord at Oxbow Park in Elkhart.

The girls earned a double win, taking four of the tops seven spots in beating Concord, 26-31, and NorthWood, 18-37. The Warrior boys, however, were edged by Concord, 28-27, but got past the Panthers 18-41. Concord earned boys and girls wins against NorthWood to complete the Northern Lakes Conference triangular.

Courtney Linnemeier ran a 21:07 to win the girl’s race, followed by Jen Slabaugh in second at 21:24. Madison Miller finished fourth at 22:09 to take the highest placing during her freshman season and Bre Robinson crossed the line at 22:40 for seventh overall in the race. Megan Rhodes gave Wawasee (3-1 NLC) its fifth scoring place with a 24:29 to land 16th overall.

Becky Snavely had the lone personal best for Wawasee at 25:04, but it still was a banner night.

“The girls had a great night, coming away with two conference wins,” Wawasee head coach Jerid Stoffel said. “We need a fifth runner to close the gap between the fourth runner if we are going to reach our goals.”

Wawasee (1-3 NLC) grabbed four of the top six positions, but it wasn’t good enough to clip Concord in the boys race.

Zach Cockrill led four consecutive Warriors across the line at 17:58, followed by Troy Carolus (18:06), Reid Stichter (18:07) and Austin Yoder (18:15), but a 13th place run by Adam Doll (18:39) allowed a gap enough for Concord to slip ahead in the standings and grab the valuable points.

Logan Brugh had Wawasee’s lone personal best at 22:00.

“Tonight was a tough night for the guys,” Stoffel said. “We had an off night and Concord took advantage of that. Times were not fast tonight but we still need to finish.”
