At 6 p.m. this evening, Sept. 11, the public is invited to attend the Patriot Day Ceremony at Center Lake Park in Warsaw.

The ceremony begins at 6 p.m. around the 9-11 Memorial at Center Lake Park.

Patriot Day was signed into law on Dec. 18, 2001, to remember those who perished on Sept. 11, 2001.

The President is requested to issue each year a proclamation calling on:

1. state and local governments and the people of the United States to observe Patriot Day with appropriate programs and activities;
2. all departments, agencies, and instrumentalities of the United States and interested organizations and individuals to display the flag of the United States at half-staff on Patriot Day in honor of the individuals who lost their lives as a result of the terrorist attacks against the United States that occurred on September 11, 2001;
3. the people of the United States to observe a moment of silence on Patriot Day in honor of the individuals who lost their lives as a result of the terrorist attacks against the United States that occurred on September 11, 2001.

In 2009, President Barack Obama signed the Edward M. Kennedy Serve America Act which recognizes Sept. 11 as a National Day of Service and Remembrance, calling upon Americans to make an enduring commitment to serve their community and our Nation.

The Tuesday, Sept. 11, program will be held at the 9-11 Memorial in Central Park and will feature patriotic songs and a few words of remembrance by Warsaw Mayor Joe Thallemer, committee member Mike Cox, Salvation Army Community Ministries Director Ken Locke.

Kosciusko County Sheriff’s Department Deputy Brad Kellar will sing The National Anthem, and the Kosciusko County Red Cross Chapter will announce the winners of the Battle of the Badges, a blood drive event from July and August.
