Two topics were of primary importance at the Sept. 10 general meeting of the North Webster-Tippecanoe Township Chamber of Commerce. Those were the upcoming Heart of the Harvest Fall Festival and nominations for board members and officers.

The Heart of the Harvest Fall Festival is held annually in support of the Heart of the Community Charity Auction and Raffle, which benefits North Webster Community Center. The Fall Festival is from 1 p.m. to 7 p.m., Saturday, Sept. 29, at the Lions Club Mermaid Grounds, West Washington and Blaine streets. The auction and raffle begins 5 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 6, and will be at the North Webster Community Center.

Chamber board member Sue Ward is in charge of this year’s festival. Sponsored by the chamber, the festival will include a pumpkin carving and decorating contest. Please bring your own pumpkin for a chance to win cash prizes for first, second and third places.

Other activities include the homemade soup dinner, cake walk at 3 p.m., corn hole tournament for adults with a cash prize, live music, vendor booths, Boy Scout popcorn sales and helicopter rides.

Continuing board members for 2013 include Helen Leinbach, North Webster Community Public Library; Sue Ward, Sue’s Creations; Karilyn Metcalf, Dixie Sternwheeler Inc.; and Emilie Judy, Mutual Bank. Judy is serving out the remainder of a former board member’s term from Mutual Bank who has moved out of the area.

The membership will be electing three board members for two-year terms and two board members for three-year terms.

Also being sought are nominations for the office of president and treasurer, both for three-year terms. Current holders of these offices have served the maximum of six years and cannot serve again. Ballots for nominations are available online or at the chamber office, North Webster Community Center, 301 N. Main St.

The chamber will sponsor its annual Visit With Santa again this year on Saturday, Nov. 24, at the North Webster Community Center. Stacey Cox of Pletcher Insurance is the chairwoman.

Michelle Reedy, representing the NWCC, announced that registrations are in progress for the 18 and over volleyball and basketball leagues as well as pickleball and corn hole leagues. Contact the center, (574) 834-1600, Ext. 0, or stop by.

J.B. Routh of the North Webster Food Pantry announced that Lakeland Kiwanis is in need of some new American flags as there has been some vandalism of them over the past summer and there are currently no replacements in stock.

The next general meeting of the chamber will be at noon, Monday, Oct. 8, at the North Webster American Legion.
