WINONA LAKE –  The Grace College men’s golf ’s team enters the 2012 season with high expectations after an up-and-down campaign in 2011.

The Lancers, led by juniors Trey Stoll, Caleb Rovenstine and Kal Denlinger, are hoping to be a consistent threat in the Crossroads League. As a result, Grace hopes to earn a berth in the NCCAA National Championships at the season’s end.

“We want to be more consistent. We have a solid group of guys that can shoot low scores, but we need to put those low rounds together,” said Grace head coach Bo Wright. “We need our players to step up and play well in tournaments and not just in practice.”

Pacing the way for Grace is Stoll, who led the team in six of Grace’s seven tournaments last season. He earned four top-three finishes at tournaments and was the medalist at the IWU Invitational and the St. Francis Invitational.

He will be joined by Rovenstine and Denlinger as Grace’s three most experienced returners. Rovenstine averaged a 79 last season, and Denlinger is looking to recover from an injury that cut his season short last fall.

“We will definitely be counting on our trio of juniors,” Wright continued. “They have played college golf for two years, so they know what to expect and what they need to do to shoot low scores. In order for our team to be successful, they need to play well.”

Sophomores Taylor Fanning and Jacob Regnier will add depth to the squad along with newcomers Taylor Breeden, Kyle Condon and Bradley Clark.

The Lancers start their season on Sept. 10-11 at the IWU Invitational from Meshingomeshia Country Club.
