Wawasee knocked off one undefeated golf team, while a once-beaten team trumped the Lady Warriors in a triangular at South Shore.
Elkhart Central moved to 12-1 overall after firing a 181 to beat Wawasee’s 189 and host Fairfield’s 191. The Lady Warriors are now 10-6 on the season while Fairfield drops to 7-2 after the double-loss.
Whistler led the Lady Blue Blazers and the entire field with a 41 while teammate Libby Colby shot a 42. Frannie Rodino chipped in a 47 and Alyse Miller had a 51.
Wawasee had a 45 from Alex Goralczyk, a pair of 46s from Elizabeth Jackson and Mikala Mawhorter and a 52 from Kylee Rostochak.
Fairfield were led by Kelsie Robinson’s 42 and 44 from Mary Shipley. Alayna Fritchley shot 54 and Caroline Kauffman a 57.
“Several of the girls haven’t played (the back nine) that often,” said Wawasee head coach Steve Coverstone. “I thought a 189 was a pretty good score. Elkhart Central just played well.”
Wawasee will return tomorrow to the South Shore course for a front nine matchup with Whitko and West Noble.
Vikings Strike Quick, Sail To Win
Huntington North posted a pair of early goals and made them stand up in a 3-1 victory over Wawasee in boys soccer action in Huntington.
Wawasee’s lone tally came from Luke Smith, who struck a 25-yard ball that caromed off the left post and into the goal.
“We got down 0-2 right off the start and it was an uphill battle from there,” stated Wawasee head coach Tom Taylor, whose club is now 1-6 on the season.
Redskins Keep Warriors Reeling
The Goshen boys tennis team keep Wawasee in its funk, winning 4-1 in Northern Lakes Conference play at Wawasee.
The Warriors (1-10, 0-3 NLC), now on the wrong side of six defeats in eight days, did get a court win from Kyler Love at one singles, a 4-6, 6-0, 6-2 win against Austin Stutzman.
Goshen (8-5, 1-2 NLC) had little trouble with the remaining courts, where Adam Bratten beat Todd Hauser one and love at two singles and Hudson Kay two and one at three singles over Chase Myers.
Sylas Buller and Sam Stegelmann beat Isaac Rigdon and Dylan Houser two and love at one doubles while Derick Hostetler and Zach Genger rolled one and one against Doug Hapner and Roz Kunkle.
Leonard Kline of Wawasee split the two JV matches, beating Deirk Oyer 6-1 and losing to Drew Wedel 8-6.
