Volleyball Team Remains Unbeaten In NLC

The Warsaw volleyball team continued is pursuit of a Northern Lakes Conference championship Tuesday night with another league win.

The host Tigers remained undefeated in NLC action by downing Northridge 3-0.

Jamie Lacheta led a balanced offense with 10 kills and Emily Poe added nine as Warsaw posted a 25-23, 25-14, 25-18 win over the Raiders.

Katie Voelz added five kills and Sam Jensen four as the Tigers improved to 11-1 overall and 3-0 in NLC action. Lacheta, Poe, Chloe Hubner and Delaney Goble each had an ace for the winners.

Lacheta also paced the defense for coach Mike Howard’s squad with 18 digs. Senior libero Alex Sanchez had 14. Voelz led the team with three blocks and setter Hubner totaled 28 assists.

Northridge drops to 10-2 overall and 0-1 in league play.

The Warsaw JV team remained undefeated on the season with a 25-20, 25-16 win. Coach Chandra Hepler’s team is now 6-0 overall and 3-0 in the NLC.

Warsaw hosts Columbia City Sept. 11. The JV team will play in the Michigan City Invitational on Saturday.

 

Girls’ Soccer Team Blanks Memorial

The Warsaw girls’ soccer team wasted no time Tuesday night in taking control in a Northern Lakes Conference contest at Elkhart Memorial.

Alex Noppert scored in the first minute of the league match as the Tigers went on to post a 6-0 victory.

Elizabeth Van Wormer led the Tigers with two goals. Noppert had a goal and two assists for the winners. Gabby Monroy and Erica Gauger each had a goal and an assist, while Sarah Boyle also netted a goal.  Broolun Jackson and Danielle Hutcherson each had an assist for the Tigers.

Warsaw outshot Memorial 19-5 with keeper Abby Schue making five saves to record the shutout in goal for the Tigers.

The Tigers improve to 6-1-1 overall and 2-1-1 in the NLC. Memorial drops to 4-4 overall and 0-3 in league play.

Warsaw won the JV contest by a 5-0 final.  Rachel Sand had two goals and Lexi Myers a goal and three assists for the Tigers. Meghan Davis and Greer Smith each had one goal and Sarah Allen and Vanessa Malagon each had an assist.

Warsaw plays at NLC foe Concord Thursday. The JV game begins at 5 p.m. with the varsity to follow.

 

Erba Sets Another Record

Ashley Erba just continued her record-setting senior season Tuesday as the Warsaw girls cross country team opened Northern Lakes Conference action with a pair of wins.

Erba, the defending state cross country champion, continued her unbeaten season by racing to a new standard of 17:38 in pacing the No. 10 Tigers to wins over Elkhart Memorial 24-31 and Concord 15-48 in league action at Memorial.

The Tigers, who moved into the top 10 in the statewide rankings this week, lived up to that lofty billing Tuesday.

Senior Sarah Ray was third overall in 19:51 for coach Scott Erba’s talented team, while Hannah Dawson placed fifth in 21:04 and Emma Hayward  sixth in 21:25. Completing the top seven for the Tigers were Madeline Hooks in ninth (21:50), Hannah Thompson in 13th (22:04) and Tennie Worrell in 14th (22:14).

Cynthia Yoder was 16th for Warsaw in 22:20, followed by teammates Tayler Mylin in 19th (22:45), Emily Stouder in 20th (23:15), Brooke Rhodes in 21sr (23:21), Claire Kehler in 29th (25:02) and Jackie Ferguson in 31st (25:42).   Also for the Tigers, Audra Harman was 32nd (25:46), Alexis Winters 33rd (25:52), Alexis Himes 34th (25:52), Courtney Etchison 38th (26:44), Laine Hertel 39th (26:56), Emma Lehman 54th (30:37) and Nicole Brackett 55th (30:42).

Warsaw will compete Saturday in the Fort Wayne Northrop Invitational starting at 9:40 a.m. The team will then have its final home meet of the season Tuesday versus Plymouth and Goshen. The NLC meet, which will also be Senior Night, starts at 5:30 p.m. at Miller Field.

 

Boys’ Soccer Team Posts Shutout

The Warsaw boys soccer team pitched a home shutout Tuesday night versus league for Elkhart Memorial.

The Class 2-A No. 2 Tigers picked up a 2-0 win over the Crimson Chargers in Northern Lakes Conference play at WCHS.

Warsaw got first-half goals from Diego Lopez and Nathan Kolbe to improve to 9-0-1 overall and 2-0-1 in the NLC with the win.  Zack Tucker had an assist for the Tigers and keeper Michael Yantz posted the shutout in goal.

Warsaw hosts Fort Wayne Carroll Saturday. The JV contest begins at 10 a.m. with the varsity game to follow.

 

No. 5 Tigers Dominate To Open NLC Action

The No. 5 Warsaw boys cross country team dominated both Elkhart Memorial and Concord to open Northern Lakes Conference competition Tuesday.

Coach Jim Mills’ Tigers beat Memorial 15-50 and Concord 15-48 in the NLC opener at Memorial.

Warsaw captured the top five spots in the race as senior Brysten James led the way by winning in a time of 17:30. Robert Murphy was second in 17:41, followed by Ismael Calderon (17:44), Jacob Poyner (17:45) and Tyler Houvener (17:46).

The Tigers took eight of the finishing spots in the top 10. Owen Glovosky was seventh in 17:55 with Nate Haller ninth (18:06) and Daniel Messenger 10th (18:31).

Warsaw hosts NLC foes Plymouth and Goshen Tuesday in its final home meet of the season. The meet, which is also Senior Night, begins at 5:30 p.m. at Miller Field in Winona Lake.
