Construction work on most state highway projects was suspended at noon today to facilitate traffic over the Labor Day weekend.

The Indiana Department of Transportation has a policy of opening as many roads as possible to the motoring public in advance of holiday travel. Contractors stop work in construction zones. Truck traffic in and out of project areas ceases. And at some locations – where possible – barricades are moved and lanes opened.

The holiday construction hiatus increases mobility and safety during periods of heavy traffic.

With possible heavy rain forecasted throughout Indiana over the weekend, INDOT reminds drivers to slow down and use caution when driving in inclement weather.  Motorists can find traffic restriction information at www.trafficwise.IN.gov.  Contact the Fort Wayne District toll free at 866-227-3555.
