A Nappanee man has died from injuries he sustained in a Wednesday night crash.

The Elkhart County Sheriff’s Department says Paul Keys, 69, of Nappanee, passed away at 12:45 a.m. Thursday, in South Bend Memorial Hospital. Keys suffered extensive injuries including head trauma, broken arms and broken ribs.

The accident happened at 8:48 p.m. Wednesday on U.S. 6 west of CR 13 near Nappanee. Investigating officers say Keys’ vehicle traveled off the south edge of the road as it was entering a curve. The vehicle overturned several times before coming to rest in a field. He was airlifted from the scene to South Bend.

A passenger in Keys’ vehicle, Jon Miller, 53, also of Nappanee, was transported to Goshen General Hospital for complaint of head and chest pains.

The ECSD crash investigators continue their investigation into the accident.
