Fog and sun are being blamed for an accident at Old Road 30 and SR 13 early this morning.

According to a Kosciusko County Sheriff’s Department report, Loren Pruitt, 65, of Warsaw, was eastbound on Old 30 approaching SR 13 when he planned to turn north onto the SR 13. Pruitt said he was not able to see the traffic signal due to fog and direct sunlight.

Pruitt pulled into the path of a southbound vehicle, driven by Jack H. Cook, 67, Middlebury. Cook said he saw Pruitt’s vehicle but was unable to avoid the collision.

A witness at the scene said Cook had the green light at the time of the crash.

Pruitt was treated at the scene for minor bleeding to an arm. Cook complained of chest pain.

The KCSD was assisted at the scene by Pierceton Fire and Multi-Township EMS.

Damages were estimated at up to $10,000.
