Vernal Hackworth, 77, of Silver Lake, Ind., passed away at 9:15 a.m. Wednesday, Aug. 15, 2012, at Miller’s Merry Manor, Warsaw, Ind.

He was born Aug. 26, 1934, in Floyd County, Ky., to Charlie and Lula (Dotson) Hackworth. On Oct. 29, 1953, he married Margie Hackworth in Kentucky. She passed away July 16, 1981.

Vernal worked at B. Walter & Co. of Wabash, Ind., making table slides. He was a collector of toys and enjoyed woodworking and collecting guns.

He is survived by three daughters: Charlene Gray, North Manchester, Ind.; Eilene (William) Prater, Silver Lake; Lorraine (Bruce) Bradley, Warsaw; two sons: Vernal E. (Diana) Hackworth, Batesville, Ind.; Ronnie (Patty) Hackworth, Akron, Ind.; 11 grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; and a sister:  Oma Manns, Akron, Ind.

He was preceded in death by his parents: Charlie and Lula Hackworth; his wife: Margie Hackworth; a daughter: Elaine (a twin sister to Eilene); three sisters and six brothers:

Visitation will be from noon to 2 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 18, at Hartzler Funeral Home, Akron. Services will follow at 2 p.m. Saturday in the funeral home with Pastor Bob Brown. Burial will be at South Pleasant Cemetery, North Manchester.
