The local girl is still on a roll.

Plymouth’s own Morgan Uceny continued to star in the 1,500-meter run at the London Olympics on Monday, finishing second in her heat of the first round of qualifiers. Uceny ran a 4:06.87 to finish second in the heat of the event, which continues Wednesday with the semi-finals.

Uceny, a Plymouth High School graduate, has recently held the ranking of top 1,500-meter runner in the world, and continued her dominance in the event. Starting near the back of the pack at the start of the third of three heats, Uceny worked her way to third only to fall back to sixth heading into the final lap.

Uceny stormed around the right side of the jumbled pack and moved from seventh to second as she crossed the line. Gamze Bulut of Turkey had the top time in the heat with a 4:06.69 while Natallia Karevia of Belarus also finished with a 4:06.87 at the line but settled for third being outleaned by Uceny.

Uceny will join fellow Americans Shannon Rowbury and Jenny Simpson in the semi-finals with a 1:45 p.m. EST start on Wednesday, according to the London 2012 website. Uceny and Rowbury will run in the first heat while Simpson will run in the second heat. The championship race will take place Friday at 2:55 p.m. EST.
