School will begin soon and a library card should be at the top of your child’s back-to-school supplies list.

If your child or college student doesn’t have a North Webster Public Library card, be sure to stop by the Youth Services Desk and fill out an application.  Library cards are free to anyone living within Tippecanoe Township.

In addition, your library card gives you access to over 100 libraries in the statewide Evergreen Library Consortium.  North Webster, Milford, and Syracuse, plus many of the libraries in surrounding communities, are Evergreen members. That means you can check out books and materials from any of these libraries using your North Webster Community Public Library card.

Whether your child is in kindergarten or college, the library is an invaluable educational resource center. You’ll find an abundance of tools for learning, improving academic skills, writing reports and term papers as well as homework helps. The library has 16 public computers, including six in the Youth Services Department, along with printing capabilities. Students must be 18 years or older to use the computers in the Adults Services Department, and parental permission is required for computer use in the Youth Services Department. The Library also offers free open wi-fi for students to access the internet from their personal laptops.

Even when the Library is closed, you can access a wealth of research resources and homework helps from your home computer via the library’s website at www.nweb.lib.in.us. Click on the Youth Resources tab.

The Homework Helps link will take you to scores of fun websites for kids and teens that offer help with reading, spelling, grammar, math, history, geography and science. There are also links to kid-friendly search engines and databases to help with research for reports and homework assignments.   High school and college-age students will find a Colleges and Careers tab to help in researching colleges, careers, and scholarships. They can also access Inspire, a search engine and database free to all Indiana residents, where students can get help preparing for taking the College Board S.A.T. including practice tests.

Then when the homework is done, kids can click on the Fun and Games link to access lots of fun and creative activities. The library is a great place for kids and adults alike to experience the joy of learning.
