There’s nothing like a challenging card game to keep your mind sharp. Card playing incorporates memory, strategy and attentiveness while providing social interaction – plus it’s just plain fun.

Sharpen your mind and enjoy a fun time of playing cards from 5:15 p.m. to 6:45 p.m. Tuesday, Aug. 7, at the North Webster Public Library when the Euchre Club meets. This adult group meets the first Tuesday of each month for a rousing round robin game of Euchre. Bring snacks to share and be prepared to have a good time making new friends.

The NWPL is once again partnering with the North Webster Community Center to offer another Women’s Self-Defense Class from 9 a.m. to 11 a.m. Saturday, Aug. 11, in the community center banquet hall. Brian Gagye, owner of Special O.P.S. K-9 Academy in North Webster, will be teaching the class.

A former U.S. Marine and police officer, Gagye will show women how to recognize and avoid potentially dangerous situations and how to defend themselves against attack.  This hands-on class is designed for women of all ages, from 12 years old and up. Tennis shoes and comfortable clothing should be worn.

The cost is $10 per student, and those under age 18 must be accompanied by a parent or guardian.  Sign up for this life-saving class at the NWCC office by Aug. 6. Advance registration is required, and the class fee is due when you register.

Did you know that you can access national databases and research tools directly from the library’s website from your home computer? Just go to www.nweb.lib.in.us and click on the “Research Tools” tab. There, you’ll find comprehensive resources and references to help you locate information, research topics, and explore the world – all from the comfort of your own home 24 hours, seven days a week. These online resources are a great help in writing term papers, doing reports, or making travel plans – even when the library is closed.
