Hey kids, if you’ve been participating in the North Webster Public Library’s Summer Reading Clubs, July 28 is the last day to earn prizes. Complete your reading and turn in your Star Passports or reading logs by July 28 to claim your prizes. Tuesday, July 31, is also the last Preschool Story Time until fall.

The Summer Reading Clubs end with a Grand Finale Picnic at 6 p.m. Wednesday, Aug. 1. The whole family is invited to attend. Bring a picnic supper and blanket and join us outside on the library lawn for fun and games.

Every Summer Reading Club participant who has completed at least four hours of reading by July 28 gets a free hot dog. There will be lots of drawings for prizes, so every child will win at least two prizes.   Although the chances of rain have been pretty slim this summer, Aug. 2 will be the rain date in case of inclement weather.

Even though the Summer Reading Clubs are winding down, the Youth Services Department continues to be a rich resource of learning and entertainment. Home schoolers and Sunday school teachers will be interested in the library’s NEST workbooks. With pages that can be photocopied, these workbooks correspond with biographical and biblical DVDs and make a great teaching tool.

Library Book Buddy Kits are popular among grandparents who are looking for an educational way to entertain the grandkids when they come to visit. Each Buddy Kit is centered on a specific subject matter and contains books, toys and storytelling items. The kits cover a wide variety of subjects that appeal to children including dinosaurs, trains, baking, math and science, building, dressing up, community helpers, animals and many more. The kits can be checked out for one week and upon return are carefully cleaned and inventoried.

Donna Corp will be back at 10 a.m. Thursday, Aug. 2, to teach another Make and Take Card class in the Adult Services Department. To learn how to create your own greeting cards, just sign up at the front desk to take this fun and creative class.  Advance registration is required, and a $7 class fee is due at sign up.

The Library now offers Blue Ray DVDs and continues to get more in each week. It also offers a large selection of music CDs featuring a wide variety of music and artists from country western to classical and every genre in between.

Many library patrons have been enjoying the Coca-Cola display filled with all kinds of Coke memorabilia.
