Federal Mogul, a wiper blade manufacturing operation, has announced it will move ahead with plans to close its plant in Michigan City. The move is expected to affect 96 workers.

In the WARN notice to the state in June, the company announced plans to merge the operation with a wiper blade plant in Mexico to improve efficiency and reduce costs.

Federal Mogul said the terminations will begin in the fourth quarter of 2012.

Last month, The Times of Northwest Indiana reported economic development officials in the area were reaching out to the company in hopes of reversing its decision.
