The unofficial Fourth of July holiday continued on Saturday, and an early morning appetizer in Syracuse was the 5K and one-mile Fun Runs sponsored by the Lakeland Youth Center.

The 5K, which began in front of the old Arthur’s Market, took runners up Chicago St. to Wawasee High School, through Wawasee Heights, back down the hill and around to Calvary Church and back to the Arthur’s parking lot. The one-mile kid’s race had them go up the hill, turn on Sycamore St. and wrap around Calvary and back to the finish line at Arthur’s lot.

The run was not nearly as populated as the Flotilla ran just last Wednesday at Lakeside Park in Syracuse, but an eager two dozen participants braved the already 90-degree heat for the 8:30 a.m. start.
