Two people killed in Fort Wayne on the Fourth of July holiday had ties to Kosciusko County.

James R. Hendrickson Jr., 56, of Fort Wayne, and his wife, Mary Catherine Hendrickson, 50, died after their motorcycle was struck head-on by a car on Covington Road, Wednesday.

James was a graduate of Warsaw Community High School. His sister, Sue Wert, resides in Milford.

Allen County authorities say James died at the scene of Wednesday’s crash. Mary Catherine died at the hospital a short time later. Neither was wearing a helmet.

The female driver of the car was reportedly in stable condition. She has not been identified.

In a sad twist of fate, James wrote on his Facebook wall on July 4, “Hope all My family and friends (have) a safe and wonderful 4th.” He listed is his favorite quote as: “Make every day as it may be your last – but hopefuly not today. Just give a simple smile or a wave and you can someone’s day just for a second, but that is all it takes sometimes.”
