The town of Mentone has extended the ban on no open burning or fireworks through July 9.

The Kosciusko County Commissioners on Tuesday extended a burn ban for the entire county which omitted fireworks from the ban. Mentone Town Council President Tim Croy says they are enforcing the ban on fireworks in the town by citing individuals who ignore it.

Kosciusko County Emergency Management Director Ed Rock said Tuesday he didn’t know what state statute the town was using to enforce the ban, but Croy said they are standing firm under the state law that allows for the ban in times of declared disasters.
