Indiana Conservation Officers are investigating why a North Webster woman drove into Backwater Lake today.

At approximately 2:40 p.m., Kosciusko County Central Dispatch received a call of a vehicle in the lake. According to witnesses, 58-year-old Mary Neibert drove her vehicle into the public access boat ramp parking lot, circled the lot, then drove into the lake. Neibert was able to roll down the window, crawl out and swim to shore.

Strong winds, rain, and hail made for low visibility during the time of the accident, which is still being investigated.

Conservation Officers were assisted on scene by North Webster Fire, North Webster EMS, North Webster Police and officers of the Kosciusko County Sheriff’s Department.
