Despite a language barrier, a Kosciusko 911 dispatcher was able to summon help to an area of CRs 800 West and 400 North near Atwood early this morning where one victim was hurt in a one vehicle crash.

Shortly before 1:30 a.m., dispatchers received the initial 911 call from a male Hispanic who was reportedly disoriented and, in broken English, unable to provide his exact location. Atwood Fire Department and Multi-Township EMS crews were dispatched to the general area north of U.S. 30 at 800 West and 400 North where they located the victim’s vehicle in a cornfield. It was determined the vehicle had rolled several times.

The Kosciusko County F.A.C.T./crash investigation team located the driver, Jorge A. Medina, 33, Warsaw, inside his silver Mercury that was on it top in a cornfield. Medina was airlifted from the scene by the Samaritan helicopter and taken to Parkview Regional Medical Center, Fort Wayne, in serious condition with a head injury.

F.A.C.T. officers stated that it appeared that Medina had been traveling southbound on County Road 800 West when for an unknown reason, left the east side of the roadway rolling over into the field.  Median was still listed in serious condition early this morning. Officers stated that the investigation is still pending as they await alcohol/drug blood test from Parkview.

Raymond Gonzales, 25,Warsaw, had left the scene and returned home at which point he called 9-1-1.  He was checked out by paramedics and refused treatment from his home. It is unknown how long Medina had actually been inside the crashed vehicle or the actual time of the crash.

K.C.S.D. and F.A.C.T. officers were assisted at the scene by the Atwood Fire Department and Multi-Township E.M.S.
