Acting on an anonymous tip, Warsaw Police responded to the Economy Inn in Warsaw Sunday evening and located more than $1,400 worth of marijuana.

At approximately 5:05 p.m. Sunday, June 24, police found Hector Martinez, 42, a resident of the motel, in room 214. Police confirmed Martinez was wanted on two outstanding felony warrants, but Martinez now faces new charges after police found a cooler filled with 14 individual bags of processed marijuana totaling over 15 ounces in his possession.

Officers arrived at the motel where Martinez opened the door to them. Officers saw a partially smoked cigarette in an ash tray that Martinez attempted to hide. Upon handcuffing him and searching his person, a baggy of marijuana was located in his pants pocket.

Further investigation found a cooler filled with 14 individual bags of processed marijuana totaling over 15 ounces.

In a statement to police, Martinez said the economy is so bad he couldn’t afford to buy pants, so he was selling the marijuana for $100 a bag. Hector Martinez lives at the Economy Inn and was booked into the Kosciusko County Jail on the two outstanding felony warrants – for failure to appear for OWI – and for felony dealing in marijuana.

Martinez’s bond has been set at $20,000.
