On Saturday, June 2, 38 area kids ages 3 years to 16 years old cast their reels and spent time with family at the Kids Fishing Derby.

The derby, hosted by the Warsaw Parks and Recreation Department at Center Lake, featured free fishing, fun contests and prize drawings. Every child in attendance received a goody bag filled with souvenirs to take home.

The Grand Prize Winner was Chris Minglin, 13, with the biggest overall fish – a 2-pound, 9-ounce bass.

In the 5 years to 8 years old age group, Kyler Denney placed first and Nick Ransbottom placed second.

In the 9 years to 12 years old age group, Dailyn Prater placed first and Allison Gonzalez placed second.

In the 13 years to 16 years old age group, Levi Hall placed first and Tylene Wadkins placed second.

In the Kids Casting Contest, Kourtney Tackett placed first, Capri Yentes placed second, and Ethan Yentes placed third. All winners were awarded certificates and prizes for their display of casting and fishing skill.
