Keep Education Standards Local
Dear Editor,
I read that Democrat David Kolbe received the endorsement from Democrat State Superintendent Glenda Ritz for the House District 22 race.
As a voter, I find this Ritz endorsement troubling because during her tenure, she has constantly fought with the rest of the State Board of Education (she even sued her fellow board members), and according to Indiana Public Media, Ritz opposed the General Assembly’s efforts to withdraw from the Common Core State Standards for Education.
From the fuzzy math standards, to the loss of classic literature standards, and the lesson plans derived from those standards, how can anyone say that Common Core-style Standards are going to do our children any good?
On the other hand, Republican Curt Nisly has been endorsed by the Hoosiers Against Common Core group because Nisly believes that education is a matter that needs to be as local as possible, with parents and local educators driving the process.
We need someone in Indianapolis who will help bring about the best education for our children that is developed here at home, and not in Washington D.C.
If you support local control of education for your children and want them to garner the best education possible, vote for Nisly on Nov. 4.
